WEBINAR Meetings with architecture: «Rosa Cervera, between the fourth architecture and the bio-city»

Organized by Casa Asia in collaboration with Cátedra China, the Encounters with Architecture program is part of a cycle of three appointments with this discipline, based on specific projects carried out in Asia by Spanish architects and projects carried out in Spain by Asian architects. The first of these meetings, held on June 3, 2021, was attended by the architect Rosa Cervera, whose work is framed by three keywords: architecture, urban planning and nature.

The innovative architecture of it is based on the continuous research of new models for an ecological architecture, that is, energy efficient, environmentally balanced and respectful of nature and man.

Topic: Rosa Cervera is a pioneer in the research of bionic science, biomimetics and biotechnology and in the application of the study of biological structures to architecture and urban design with solutions of natural inspiration. Her best-known project in Asia is the Vertical Garden Bio-city, based on a model that she calls the Bionic Tower for 100,000 inhabitants with an area of 2,000,000 m2 that rises on a circular base with a diameter 1,000 meters. Inspired by the structure of trees, she has conceived a bio-structure, which acts as a garden city, and which can reach up to 1,220 m in height, with 368 lifts and twelve neighborhoods. Her proposal consists of an alternative urban model that is self-sufficient and makes the megacities of the 21st century viable.

The architect spoke about this project and the V & Westin Towers built in Rajarhat. It has two 150m high twin towers, one of them for a hotel and the other for housing, as well as a shopping center, garden areas, parking lots and other services. During the talk, Rosa Cervera focused on these two projects to which she associated other parallel architectures carried out in China, Korea, India and Malaysia.

Moderator and presenter: Menene Gras Balaguer, director of Culture and Exhibitions of Casa Asia.

Coordinator: Rodrigo Escamilla Sandoval, Coordinator of Culture and Exhibitions of Casa Asia.

Speaker: Rosa María Cervera | Professor of the School of Architecture of the University of Alcalá and president of Cátedra China | June 3, 2021, 7:00 p.m.
